Students admitted from AY2026/27 onwards may choose to pursue a 15-credit specialisation, which will be shown on their transcript upon completion.

Core

Complete ONE of the following modules:

  • ASI3002 Economic Regionalism in East Asia
  • ASI3011 Political Dynamics in East Asia

China Studies

Complete THREE of the following modules:

  • ASI3007 Contemporary China: Continuity and Change
  • ASI4010 Cultural Memory and Digital Technology in Chinese Societies
  • ASI4011 Greater Bay Area: Development and Innovation
  • ECO4004 Economies of Mainland China and Hong Kong SAR
  • PPE3001 History of Chinese Political Thoughts

Completed ONE of the following modules:

  • CHI3004 Advanced Putonghua Oral Training
  • ASI3100 Experiential-learning Practicum (in Mainland China/Taiwan/Macau or in related organization approved by the Programme Director)
  • ASI4100 Internship (in Mainland China/Taiwan/Macau) or in related organization approved by the Programme Director)

Completed at least 7 days of the Outbound Learning Experience (OLE) in Mainland China, Taiwan or Macau

Japan Studies

Complete ALL of the following modules:

  • ASI3008 Japanese Culture and Society
  • ASI4008 Understanding Japanese Identity Through Literature
  • ASI4012 Modernisation of Japan

Completed ONE of the following modules:

  • ASI1103 Japanese III
  • ASI1104 Japanese IV
  • ASI1105 Japanese V
  • ASI3100 Experiential-learning Practicum (in Japan or in related organization approved by the Programme Director)
  • ASI4100 Internship (in Japan or in related organization approved by the Programme Director)

Completed at least 7 days of the Outbound Learning Experience (OLE) in Japan

Korea Studies

Complete ALL of the following modules:

  • ASI3010 Coming of Age in South Korea
  • ASI4009 Globalization of Korean Popular Culture
  • ASI4013 Understanding Korea Through History

Completed ONE of the following modules:

  • ASI1203 Korean III
  • ASI1204 Korean IV
  • ASI1205 Korean V
  • ASI3100 Experiential-learning Practicum (in Korea or in related organization approved by the Programme Director)
  • ASI4100 Internship (in Korea or in related organization approved by the Programme Director)

Completed at least 7 days of the Outbound Learning Experience (OLE) in Korea
