This course is designed to introduce students for understanding the social transformation of the Post-1980s South Korea in various dimensions. These South Korean generations do not experience the struggle through the Chosŏn dynasty, the war and splitting between the North and the South, social movement and process of democratization; but they see the prosperity left from the past tradition and culture. The course then aims at broadening the vision of students with an imaginary of the Post-1980s South Korean; by studying this course, students can see how the Korean grow with the social affluence and contradictions, as well as how the nation mediates global tensions and negotiation. Social science and cultural studies approaches will be emphasized for the examination of various issues.
